From a Feb. 7, 1908, newspaper from Irvington, Va.
"Battling Bob," the fiercest game chicken in Isle of Wight county, Va., committed suicide by jumping in front of the N.(orfolk) & W.(estern) cannonball train near Suffolk. The fowl had just defeated another gamecock, which was rescued before annihilation. Bob then attacked the bystanders and just before the train passed, ran on the track, braving the train, and waited for death."
